Etsy lets you add up to 20 photos and a video to every listing. It raised the limit from 10 photos in 2025. That doesn't mean you need 20 mockups. Buyers decide from the first few photos, and each extra photo only helps if it shows them something new.
This guide covers how many mockups each type of product needs, which photos matter most, and how to work out how many mockups your shop needs in a month.
For most listings, 5 to 8 photos is the right number, and 4 to 6 of them are mockups. The rest are things like a size chart, a close-up of the details, or a photo of the colour options.
Every photo should answer a different question a buyer has:
If two photos answer the same question, cut one of them.
| Product | Mockups | What to show |
|---|---|---|
| Posters and wall art | 4–5 | 3–4 rooms (hung and leaning), a close-up, plus a size chart |
| T-shirts | 4–6 | Front, back if printed, worn or mannequin, flat lay, main colours |
| Mugs | 3–4 | The mug on its own, in use on a desk or table, a lifestyle scene |
| Stickers | 2–3 | On a laptop or water bottle, the sticker sheet, a close-up of the finish |
| Tote bags | 3–4 | Held or hanging, flat lay, a market or lifestyle scene |
Wall art needs the most photos, because buyers are trying to picture it in their own home. Show it in 3 or 4 different rooms, mix hung and leaning placements, and add one close-up of the paper and the frame. Finish with a size chart, since "will it fit my frame?" is the question sellers get asked most. The Etsy listing pack makes this whole set in one click, and the room style guide helps you pick the rooms.
If the design is on both sides, show both. Then add one worn or mannequin shot and one flat lay. Only add colour mockups for the colours you expect to sell most. Two or three good ones work better than a grid of twelve. See front and back t-shirt mockups and mannequin vs worn for more.
These are smaller buys, and buyers decide faster. Three good mockups are usually enough: the product on its own, the product in use, and one scene that shows the mood of your shop.
The first photo does most of the work. It's the only one buyers see in search results, so it decides whether they click at all. Spend your time there:
Keep your shop consistent. If every listing's first photo uses the same room or style, your shop page looks like a collection rather than a random mix. In PosterMock AI you can save a room as a template and swap each new design into it.
Multiply the listings you plan to make by the mockups each one needs, then add about 20% for retries, for when you want a different angle or a different room:
listings × mockups per listing × 1.2
Each mockup is 5 credits in PosterMock AI, on any product. Here's what that looks like for a poster shop making 5 mockups per listing:
| New listings | Mockups (with retries) | Credits | Covered by |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 18 | 90 | 100-credit pack, $2.99 |
| 5 | 30 | 150 | 200-credit pack, $4.49 |
| 10 | 60 | 300 | 300-credit pack, $5.49 |
| 15 | 90 | 450 | 500-credit pack, $7.49 |
| 25 | 150 | 750 | 750-credit pack, $9.99, or Pro at $7.99/month |
Credit packs are a one-time payment, and the credits never expire. If you launch in batches, buy a pack for the batch and use what's left next time. If you really make 25 or more new listings every month, Pro ($7.99 a month for 150 mockups) works out cheaper. Read more about paying per use instead of a subscription.
Upload a design and get photos for posters, t-shirts, mugs, stickers or tote bags in about 20 seconds.

Etsy allows up to 20 photos and one video per listing. It raised the limit from 10 photos in 2025.
Usually not with mockups alone. Five to eight strong photos that each answer a different buyer question do more than twenty similar ones. Use extra slots for colour options, a size chart or close-ups only when they add new information.
The room can be the same, but each listing needs mockups of its own design. Saving a room as a template lets you swap new designs into the same room, which keeps a shop looking consistent.
In PosterMock AI, no. The size chart in the Etsy listing pack is drawn from your artwork's proportions and costs no credits.
